What You Missed October 2018 General Meeting

A Visual and Interactive Real Estate Learning Experience

Walter Kaminski

October 2, 2018

Walter Kaminski has been a vendor with SREIA for years. He teaches on a variety of topics in real estate and brought his expertise to our general meeting in October.

The first portion of his presentation was a unique multimedia experience. He based it loosely on the Japanese phenomenon called PechaKucha, which has been gaining increasing popularity. The original PechaKucha consists of a presentation of 20 images shown for 20 seconds each.

Walter extended the original style by showing a set of slides for each of his topic areas, each block running back-to-back with the next, resulting in a fast-paced visual show, to which he provided narration.

His images included: books he recommends, quotes, humor, references to state statutes, timeframes for tax deed sales, and a variety of other information about a wide range of topics in real estate investing. He even showed a video segment from the movie House of Sand and Fog. This first portion of the evening was essentially a whirlwind tour touching on numerous areas of real estate. Although it passed by much too quickly to take detailed notes, if one enjoyed the experience while paying attention to areas that caught their special attention, it was possible to take away some ideas for further action, thought, or research.

The second portion of Walter’s presentation was Real Estate Jeopardy. He had a full board of answers for both Jeopardy and Double Jeopardy, plus a Final Jeopardy challenge. Some answers had easy questions, but others stumped everyone. There was a good mix from easy to difficult. Some of the categories represented were: Real Estate Acronyms, Real Estate Education/Books, Realtor Galaxy, Foreclosures, Mom & Pop Landlording, Land Trusts, Tax Liens, and Real Estate Paperwork, to name just a selection.

All in all, it was an entertaining evening with the opportunity to discover some of the areas of real estate investing that we need to brush up on.
